Overview
A first-person longitudinal case study of work continuation across LLMs.
This study distinguishes three layers of continuation: remembering prior work, resuming an authorized goal, and sustaining that goal over time.
Drawing on an October 2026 episode from a long-running human–AI research collaboration, it examines how a successfully resumed research goal was subsequently displaced without an explicit decision to pause or close it.
The paper identifies four interface design requirements for making such changes visible while preserving human authority. These requirements remain hypotheses for future evaluation.
